Joey and the car trunk

Joey never ceases to surprise me. When I think he can't do anything else really stupid strange, he goes and does it.

This time he, his older brother, and his cousin were having a nerf gun war in the back yard at my mom's house  The older boys were ganging up on Joey, which happens quite a bit, of course. And his older cousin got into trouble for hitting Joey. (His dad reminded him that there are so many things you can shoot at. Trees, rocks, the fence. Try to avoid the little boy.)

Well, Joey felt bad because he got his cousin into trouble so he decided to go serve his penance in the car. He also figured he would sit in the trunk. And then he popped it open and saw all of the newspapers but wondered if he would fit in the small space. But he had to close the lid just to make sure. Well, he did, just harder than he anticipated and the trunk locked.

So we have little Joey who crammed himself into a small  space in the trunk with the lid tightly closed.  The newspapers blocked the exit from the seat. He did find a screw driver and tried to pry the door open. It didn't work.

45 minutes after my nephew was repremanded, Tami and I went outside to talk about in private and we heard some strange noices coming from my trunk. We quickly found out it was Joey and ran inside to get the keys.

After opening it, we found the little boy huddled in a small confined space with tears streaming down his face. He held on to my neck and cryed and then tried explain his situation in between gasps of air. He was very brave and promised me he would NEVER lock himself in the trunk again.

When we got home, I caught him praying in the family room, thanking his Heavenly Father for being rescued. It was a profound way to end he situation.
And I have decided I need to keep a better eye on my son when he is at grandmas house. Too many tempting situations that can prove dangerous for my imaginative fellow.

Oh my, Joey must have been very scared -- getting trapped in the car trunk and all. I hope he is alright now. Kids who went through traumatic experiences sometimes get nightmares about the incident. Stay safe!
